Factors causing Dark Circles:-
There is not one reason for dark circles. There can be numerous of such reasons. Dark circles become darker with the passage of time and age. Skin under eyes is very thin and sensitive. Due to the exposure to Sunrays, it becomes more thin and wrinkled. This skin can also be called as Fat pad under the eyes. When this fat pad becomes thin, veins under it becomes more prominent and are clearly visible. This skin is already darker as compared to the skin of your face. Any weakness in your health will be clearly shown through dark circles. Dark circles occur not only due to Tiredness or sun exposure but hormonal imbalance or hereditary can also be the reasons.
In some cases, it can be the reflection of extra fat stocked in the lower lid of the eye. It can only be removed by cosmetic surgery or Concealer makeup can be another option. Factors that make dark circles around the eyes are listed below:-
Age – As we get older, skin under the eyes become more sensitive and thin. The skin loses its Elasticity, Wrinkles occur due to which dark circles become more dark. To take of this, take Vitamin C in maximum quantity. Amla is the best medicine for overall care of your eyes and the surrounded area.
Hereditary factor – Dark circles can occur due to heredity also. It may pass from one generation to another.

Allergy – If you are allergic to anything around you then, avoid to be in that surroundings. Environmental allergies can cause swelling of nose and swollen eyes. Sneezing and headache are the most common ones. For fighting Allergies, Vitamin C is very effective.
Tiredness – one of the most common reasons for having Dark Circles is Tiredness. It can be due to extra Fatigue & pain you have taken during whole day. Lack of sleep will tremendously effect your skin under the eyes. It will be clearly seen in the morning. Ensure that you sleep for minimum 6 hours a day. Also, take care while working in front of Computer, don’t make it a excess. Take a short break while working on Computer or watching Television.
Smoking – Smoking can cause many diseases specially heart diseases. It also effect your eyes badly. Not only smokers but non-smokers are indirectly effected by smoke. Eyes can become itchy, watery and red. Eyes can have swelling also. Avoid being in a smoky surroundings.
Sun Exposure - Direct exposure of eyes to sun may be problematic for eyes. Dark circles will become darker. To take care of your eyes always wear sunglasses while going in sunlight and always wash your eyes with cold water after coming back from sunlight. Direct sunrays are harmful for eyes.
Other:-Menstruation, Pregnancy and Thyroids can also cause Dark circles.
Treatment for Dark Circles:-
- Put sliced cucumber over your eyes to treat dark circles.
- Yoga will help you to get rid of dark circles so do pranayam for atleast 5 minutes everyday.
- Relax and place a slice of cucumber or potato on your eyes closed for 10 minutes everyday. It will surely help in reduction of dark circles.
- Put potato slices on your eye to get rid off those dark circles.
- When feeling tired, dip cotton pad in rosewater or child milk and put this cotton on each eyelid for 15 minutes a day and lie down with your feet raised slightly higher than your head. Try to do this exercise daily and you will surely feel the difference.
- Make it a routine to apply Almond oil under the eyes before going to bed.
- Eat food with include vitamins and iron so include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.
- Almond oil is the good skin food. Massage under and around the eyes with almond oil daily for 2 weeks.
- Instead of applying cucumber, and almond oil separately, you can also apply mixture of cucumber juice, lemon juice and almond oil under your eyes.
- Increase the quantity of Iron in your diet. A healthy and nutritious diet will help in Dark circle reduction as any deficiency straight away shows up through dark circles. Take vitamin C in maximum quantity.
- Monitor your daily schedule and take at least 6 hours sleep and take breaks while working on computer.
- Drink at least 2 liters of water daily.
- Apply a paste of turmeric powder with pineapple juice bellow eyes.
- Use sunglasses to protect your eyes from the harmful rays.
- Dip cotton balls in rose water or chilled water and keep it over the darker areas of eyes for 5-10 minutes.
